For a while now, we have been able to quantify the breath of a person. However it involves carrying an important device, with a lot a tubes going straight from your mouth to the machine. In the end, the user looks more like Darth Vader than a human being. For that reason it is much more convenient to stay in the hospital for a week rather than going back home with this huge machine.
According to some doctors, it isn’t possible to reduce system size using electrode. The current problem is that the signal is too noisy. The heartbeat and the environmental sound are too loud compared to the breath signal. Despite that, the startup E-respi ensure that it is possible, and shown through software that with additional filter they had significant results. Benjamin, Benoit, Xavier and me decided to face the challenge of building that system for real. If we succeed, thousands of person could avoid staying one week in a hospital. This could save a lot of money as well.
So, we started the project by meeting Laurent and Samy, who are the two directors of the company . Obviously it is easier to have an idea than defining it. Since that meeting we have been exchanging emails to get specifications of the system. Actually we settled a contract notice and we are waiting for their approval e. It took us a lot of time to do it, but in the end, by Friday, we had a quite well defined project. The three points to be still defined are: the security of data, the data treatment (web service) and defining the real-time aspect of the system ( To allow us to dimension the system).
